World IPv6 Day
Submitted by detoler on Thu, 05/12/2011 - 23:12June 8, 2011: World IPv6 Day
Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Akamai, and bunches of others will enable IPv6 on their main sites for the public for 24 hours to test real-world connectivity and stuff with IPv6 for the first time ever. (finally!)
Apparently Time-Warner Cable is getting in on the action, too, and will provision their customers with IPv4 and IPv6 addresses:

National Multiple Sclerosis Society bike ride 2009
Submitted by detoler on Fri, 08/21/2009 - 16:36Hey folks, me again!
Yep, I'm late to the call, but thought I'd make a hollerin' anyway.
I'm once again doing the National Multiple Sclerosis Society bike ride fund raising event this year. For those that want a quick history lesson, or don't know: Several years ago I was having problems walking, blurry vision, difficulty climbing stairs and maintaining balance. After several months of these problems escalating, I went to see a neurologist. When the MRI scans came back, I was confirmed with a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. For about six years now, I"ve been on drug therapy, a better diet, and a basic exercise regiment. My MS has relapsed only once in that time and my prognosis so far is good.
Apple Time Capsule
Submitted by detoler on Sat, 07/04/2009 - 14:03I was poking at the heavenly Apple store at Southpoint Mall yesterday when lo' and behold I came across the shiny Time Capsule toy. It *looks* really really spiffy and seems to be something which Heather and I [both Macbook and iPhone owners] can use.
However, I'd like to find out if I can use the Time Capsule as an NFS server (to mount it from a remote Linux client, and I have a host here that I'd like to use the Time Capsule as an NFS root). The "geniuses" at Apple seemed unsure and were totally unable to help. All they new was that it worked with SMB/CIFS and apparently AFP for Mac.
Really good interview with Larry Wall of Perl fame

One of the best parts, for me, is (regarding "where do you see Perl in 20 years from now?"):
Don't design everything you will need in the next 100 years, but design the ability to create things we will need in 20 or 100 years.
packing
Submitted by detoler on Thu, 09/11/2008 - 10:41Well I put up the tent Heather got, let it stay up overnight two nights ago when it rained and... yeah the tent didn't do well in the "water-resistant/repellent" department.
So, I'm going tonight to get a new spiffy one. Crap.
Then I gotta pack my bike and bunch of other gear. I'll probably go to Heather's apartment first to help her with stuff before I go home.
Fun fun. The pre-trip stress is starting to hit me a little now. But then again I do need to eat me a morning snack now, too.
(Update!) National Multiple Sclerosis Society benefit bike ride
Submitted by detoler on Mon, 08/18/2008 - 20:18Hi again folks! I am making the call for another round of donations for the big National MS Society bike ride event next month! I'm very close to reaching my goal and I am only $2500 short as of now. I know it's within reach! If you or someone else you know can help put me over the edge (haha, like I *need* that, right?), then we can all sleep well at night :) Or something like that. Anyway, if you can donate even the smallest amount, it would be greatly appreciated! No donation is too small.
