TN 3/9

Submitted by unitinu on Sun, 03/07/2010 - 12:18

Did we agree on 68 for this coming TN, so we can switch to hard mode? Ynit's at 67.63 right now, and I'm wondering whether I should get out and get killin' stuffs.

There's some clever folks on that Internet thing

The always-clever Bram Cohen has invented what looks like an interesting two-player poker variant...

I think I feel the need for beers. Suggestions?

TN 2/23

Submitted by unitinu on Tue, 02/23/2010 - 08:29

Jac's working, right, so no usual shenanigans?

I'll still be on, though, noodling around in Zangarmarsh, trying to skill up my Mining to 325, while trying to avoid leveling too much, if anyone else is looking for something boring to do.

Come to think of it, I'm probably going to need to get to 350 some time soon, aren't I, given the rate we're tearing through instances? Well, I'll be on, and skilling up Mining to whatever point feels right, in that case.

Are you ready to have your privacy violated?

My friend Sai is trying to find interesting ways to exploit a weakness in CSS. It'll make more sense if you read the page, but basically he's training an AI to recognize returning users regardless of which computer / browser / OS they log in from. It doesn't do anything unless or until you hit the button.

Please follow Sai's wishes, and share the link by word of mouth, but not via Fark, Slashdot, or any of the other "big name" sites.

Here's a little something I'm putting together to help American English speakers give out phone numbers to American Spanish-speaking callers. I'd appreciate any insights.

Looking for PC parts

Submitted by unitinu on Thu, 02/11/2010 - 13:42

I'm building two PCs, to fill operational needs of the crisis hotline my wife runs. They need a dual-homed router and a file server. I've settled on pfsense for the router, and FreeNAS for the file server.

I've got a dual-core machine that'd work for either purpose, but it's in a BTX case, with limited room for hard drives (two 3.5" bays, plus one more if I install a 3.5" to 5.25" bracket). So, I'm thinking that one's good for the router.

Patch 3.3.2 is out, just so you know.

ThN 1/28

Going to be late at least, quite possibly very late indeed. I have to chauffeur the wife to an event in Smithfield, and back (and very probably play sound engineer while I'm there). Don't feel the need to wait for me. I'll see y'all on vent when I get back home.

Now with more availability

I installed the Fring IM client on my phone last night. If you've got my IM or Skype details (come to think of it, I don't think *I've* got my Skype details), you'll now be able to reach me anywhere in WiFi range -- I'm not going to leave it on the 3G because I don't have (and refuse to pay for) an unlimited data plan.

So far, it seems like a pretty decent little IM thinger / contacts manager. Multi-platform, too, so you should (or at least could) check it out and see if there's a version for your phone.
