So what the hell is all this?
Read this if you haven't already
Why are we here?
Well, existentially speaking, we are here to fish. Why are you at dunfoamin.org? That's a harder question, but I'll give it a shot.
I've been fortunate enough (or perhaps gullible enough) to run a couple of mailing lists for a lot of y'all to coordinate gaming and vacationing. From time to time, however, one of us would want to share something with everyone else, and I'd see it and think, "hey, the peeps at $other_mailing_list, or $other_non_list_person would love this!" but it's a bitch to cross post to a mailing list, and sending out 15 different emails is a pain in the ass. And I'm lazy. But, when geekery is involved, I get un-lazy, so I set up this Drupal thingy (which really rocks, btw) so I could get everyone together.
So, the short answer, you are here because I know you, or you know someone that knows me, or.. well, you see where this is going.
OK, so what now?
First, edit your user info. There are a lot of people here from different groups, and it'd be nice to know who you are. If you don't know who you are you are still in good company ;)
You can just head right here to do it.
Second, poke around the site. I've set up forums for us to chat about stuff we all like, you can post to your own blog, add pages to a book, or just have a general "Story" posting.
The forums should be used for general chatting to a specific group, and I've broken them up to reflect that.
Blogs can be used for whatever you want.
The books should be used in a wiki-like manner, and should be for static information (ie - there is already a recipe book, and one for our lotro guild).
A story will get posted to the front page, and would be something that *everyone* (or almost everyone) would be interested in.
If a new forum or book needs to be added, let me (wlm2048) or jc (john) know, and we'll set it up.
What should I *not* do
There will be plenty of people here that read this in a work setting, so try not to get *too* NSFW.
Oh, and don't be an idiot ;)
What about my friend, Bob?
Invite him! Tell him about the site. For the foreseeable future, I'm not going to allow anonymous access of any type, so to see *anything* at all, an account will have to be created.
Need any help?
Oh, yeah. This thing is a monster, and I'm doing my best to figure it all out *and* have it used at the same time. So, if you have time and html/php/css skillz, lemme know.
Anything else I should know?
Ummm, there is an RSS feed for the main page, as well as a separate one for blogs.
I can't think of anything else - if something isn't working like you want, holler at me, or AIM me (wlm2048).
Thanks for stopping by :)
