Why Oprah is hurting America, or how Newsweek sort of doesn't suck anymore

Submitted by micah on Wed, 06/24/2009 - 08:57

In this new bizarre world, even Newsweek sometimes gets journalism right.

Their most recent example? A cover story on how Oprah promotes quackery.

Now, this may come as a surprise, but I'm not really a fan of her show - I had no idea what she talks about, other than free cars and that bad, bad James Frey.

An excerpt:

They explained that the universe and everything in it are made of vibrating energy, and by thinking positively we can actually "attract" the positive vibrations of the universe and bend them to our will. "You're a field of energy in a larger field of energy," one of The Secret's teachers said. "And like attracts like, and that's very, very scientific."

And we wonder why Americans score so low in science literacy.
