Ok, I went to test drive a Jetta TDI on Saturday.

Really, we don't *need* two AWD cars here, despite the fact it was snowing on saturday. Because of the high MPG, and the cargo room, the TDI SportWagon has become a contender against another Forester for Alessa.

The Forester is more truck like, and would look slightly more manly should I take it to the sporting clay range or such. On that note it's "all road" capability is greater than the TDI. Of course in addition to the mileage, the tire wear on the AWD is a draw back in operating cost.

Still at an initial stage in consideration, but thought I'd enlist the dunfoamin gestalt to provide any input they may have on Newer VW's.
