System Tray Audio Device Switcher

The other night I was complaining about having to go into the control panel and hop around a bit to change the default audio output from the internal card to the USB headphones. I figured there had to be a way to do it easier, and there is: System Tray Audio Device Switcher (STADS) adds a trayicon that lets you swap the default audio device with a click. Works on XP and makes me happy. It might do the same for one of y'all.

D.O and Drupal

Hey everyone, your friendly admin here.

I've been thinking for some time on some changes to make to the d.o site to make it a little simpler.

The first thing I'd like to do it update to Drupal 6. We are currently at 5.something, and while it works great, support for some of the plugins that are used here is beginning to be dropped, and 6 has some features that would be nice to have.

One of the things that it *doesn't* have (or maybe it does, but one of the things I'd like drop) are forums.

Really good interview with Larry Wall of Perl fame

http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/270267/-z_programming_languages_...

One of the best parts, for me, is (regarding "where do you see Perl in 20 years from now?"):

Don't design everything you will need in the next 100 years, but design the ability to create things we will need in 20 or 100 years.

Images!

OK, after a couple of people pointed out it was a pain in the ass to try and attach images, I actually checked it out for myself.

Guess what, you couldn't attach an image to a post!

Now, at the bottom of all the text entry fields, there should be a link that says, "Add image."

You should also be able to upload images there a little easier than before.

I'm gonna try it out right now - y'all let me know if it doesn't work.

Comment RSS Fixed

For those of you that noticed (and subscribe to the comment rss), it was indeed not working.

I fixed it, so we should start getting all the new comments in our feed readers. Just what I needed to be more productive ;)

Perl rocks.

Sometimes you get to do something pretty neat in perl that hurts your head, but makes you smile when you are done.

# I'm sooo sorry for this:
my $total = join ',', reverse sort split ',', join ',+,', map +( "f_" . $_ ), @types;

I love it when what looks like line noise is functional code.

Warhammer

okay, there's a list of release servers up, as well as a description of server types, so we should go ahead and pick where we're gonna be. unforunately, they went w/the same idea for "open pvp" as WoW did, so i'm rather disinterested in that type, though i could be persuaded to try one. (though w/the chicken debuff, i think it may be somewhat less ganky...) but i imagine we'll be taking up residence on a Core server. Red Eye Mountain is a Core North American server. figure that's gonna be us?

new computer BSOD

well, my machine is still suffering from occasional BSODs. at this point, it seems to only ever crop up while the machine is booting, just after it starts trying to load Windows. but it doesn't happen -every- time; maybe about 1 in 4. i've swapped position of my RAM (thus reseating them as well) and i've slightly backdated my vid card drivers. however, the screen flashes by so quickly that i can't capture any specifics at all on the error.
