TECH: Reflashing an Android device

I've got a Pandigital Novel. It's an Android tablet running some odd variant of Android that doesn't recognize market:// URLs, meaning I can't install any new apps on it -- it's just stuck as a perfectly functioning tablet / e-reader, but that's all it will ever be.

I've seen some stuff online about reflashing the Novel with a replacement fully-functional version of Android (while keeping the DRM and your media collection), but I'm just wondering whether anyone has any tips, tricks, or hints to bear in mind before I jump in with both feet...

computer crash.

so. my newer machine has become hosed. of primary concern at the moment, is that the HDD seems faulty. i'm not convinced that's the root of the problem, though it may be. current plan is to yank it out tomorrow and cart it over to Intrex and see what they can do with it. and it seems likely to me that i'll wind up buying a replacement.

just puttin' that out there so people are aware of possible expectations. though i should still be able to play from thi---oo. well. maybe i can still play from this box. maybe i should set it patching tonight...

Windows dies. Knoppix raises dead.

I recently got a pretty sweet tablet laptop from my father. It had a bunch of Novell network stuff installed so that it could be part of a larger network. I didn't need it and it was somewhat annoying, so I started removing it (unfortunately it wasn't all listed under Novell, so it took a couple of tries). Upon removing the last of the components, Windows started to complain on restart about a missing .dll and wouldn't give me the option to log in so that I could go about fixing it.
